Monday last day for Texans to register to vote

AUSTIN—Not a registered voter? Time is running out if you want to cast a ballot for everything from president of the United States down to the local level.

Monday is the last day for Texans to register to vote for the Nov. 4 general election. Applications can be obtained from many post officies, libraries, county election offices and from the Texas secretary of state’s VOTEXAS.org Web site.

“Registration is easy and accessible for Texas voters,” said Secretary of State Hope Andrade, the state’s chief elections officer. “I hope every eligible Texan will register to vote and then exercise their right to cast a ballot on Election Day.”

Texas has more than 13.2 million registered voters, which is about 75 percent of the state’s total voting age population. Total registration has grown by about 500,000 since the March primaries.

“We can feel a lot of energy surrounding this election and expect to see a larger voter turnout than we’ve seen in recent elections,” Andrade said.

She encouraged voters to take advantage of the Oct. 20-31 early voting period.
