Man found guilty in game warden’s death
WHARTON, Texas—A 27-year-old man has been found guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of a state game warden after a high-speed chase.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says in a news release that a Wharton County jury took two-and-half hours Monday to return the verdict in the trial of James Garrett Freeman of Lissie. Sentencing is set for today. He could face the death penalty. Freeman, who was suspected of poaching, opened fire on game warden Justin Hurst in March 2007. Hurst was shot on the eve of his 34th birthday and died the next day. Wharton County is southwest of Houston.
