General manager of a Texas IHOP convicted of fraud
MIDLAND, Texas—The general manager of an IHOP restaurant in Midland faces 20 years in prison after more than $115,000 was embezzled.
A federal jury in Midland on Thursday afternoon convicted 47-year-old Orchid Mitchell Hill of 11 counts of mail fraud. The FBI investigation revealed 22 of the restaurant’s daily cash deposits, from August 2007 to January 2008, had been stolen. Testimony indicated Hill transmitted weekly reports to IHOP accountants in Wichita Falls and falsely certified that the cash deposits had been made. Hill could be fined up to $250,000 on each count when she is sentenced in February. Prosecutors say Hill also will be expected to make restitution to the International House of Pancakes.
