SAN ANTONIO—An upset divorcee shot and killed a woman involved with her ex-husband Tuesday in a parking lot ambush where the other woman worked, authorities said.

Leticia Arcos, 36, will be charged with murder for allegedly waiting in her car outside an animal hospital and gunning down her rival following a heated confrontation witnessed by co-workers and others, Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dale Bennett said.

Kristy Appleby, 32, was shot at least twice in the neck and died later at a San Antonio hospital. Arcos had fled before family members helped locate her, Bennett said.

Authorities initially said Arcos was married and that Appleby had appeared to have been romantically involved with her husband. Bennett later corrected that, saying Arcos had been divorced five years and that she appeared to blame Appleby for her marital issues.

He believed Appleby and Arcos’ ex-husband had began a relationship before the divorce. Arcos was being held late Tuesday at Bexar County jail, which said it had no information about whether Arcos had an attorney.

Authorities said at least six witnesses, including two co-workers, saw the confrontation outside the Bulverde Creek Animal Hospital.
