Man rescues vulture caught in coyote trap in South Texas

MONTE ALTO, Texas—A South Texas man who saw a vulture caught in a coyote trap in a watermelon patch threw a blanket over the struggling bird and freed it.

The rescue happened near Monte Alto after Johnny Herrera, who lives nearby, noticed the wing-flapping bird and feared the creature might not survive.

Monte Alto is about 25 miles northeast of McAllen.
