Flood-damaged mobile homes are scattered along Gilbert Creek Monday in Gilbert, W.Va., where floodwaters have closed roads and damaged hundreds of structures. The area has been hit hard by rain in the past few weeks resulting in flash floods. The National Guard is helping residents in West Virginia’s southern coalfields recover from weekend flooding that destroyed at least 300 buildings, knocked out power and caused mudslides that flushed trash, debris and at least one mobile home downstream.
