Houston holds off Dream
ATLANTA—Sancho Lyttle had 15 points and 18 rebounds to help the Houston Comets hold off a late rally to beat the winless Atlanta Dream 72-65 on Thursday night.
The Comets (8-9) almost squandered another sizable lead two nights after watching a 14-point lead vanish in a 78-68 loss to Connecticut. Michelle Snow had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Comets before fouling out with 1:20 left in the fourth quarter. Shannon Johnson had 12 points and seven assists for Houston, which played without Olympian Tina Thompson (broken finger) for the fourth straight game. Betty Lennox scored 15 points for the Dream (0-17), who became the first team without a win at the midpoint of a season. Silver Stars 68, Monarchs 67 SAN ANTONIO—Sophia Young had 20 points and 12 rebounds, including a three-point play with 5.5 seconds left to lift San Antonio. Trailing by two points, Young drove the lane and was fouled by Adrian Williams-Strong. The basket was good to tie score, and Young then hit the go-ahead free throw. Becky Hammon add 16 points and Ann Wauters had 12 to help the Silver Stars (11-6) improve to 9-1 at home this season. Rebekkah Brunson scored 18 points to lead Sacramento (8-9), and Ticha Penicheiro had eight assists. The Silver Stars pulled to 67-65 on Hammon’s 3-pointer with 33 seconds left. Penicheiro then missed a jumper with 7 seconds left, setting up the Silver Stars’ final play. |
