HOUSTON—A member of a football officiating crew working an eighth-grade game collapsed on the field and died en route to a hospital.

Virgil Ray, 60, died Tuesday night after collapsing during a game at Cy-Fair ISD’s Hamilton Middle School between Hamil-ton and Arnold Middle School. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Wednesday, but the findings on the cause of death were not expected before Thursday at the earliest, officials said.
