South Alabama gave John Pelphrey his first head coaching job, and when he left to take over at Arkansas, he brought a small debt with him.

“It was in my contract,” Pelphrey said. “Instead of a buyout, if I left for a BCS-type school, there was going to be a home-and-home series.”

The Razorbacks play at South Alabama tonight in Mobile, Ala., in part 1 of that series with the Jaguars. Pelphrey coached South Alabama for five seasons before joining the Razorbacks in April 2007.
