Sprint car racing returns to 67 Speedway with O’Reilly’s American Sprint Car Series at 7:30 p.m. today. The event will feature Gary Wright against racers from all over the country. Location: Take I-30 east from Texarkana to the Mandeville exit and follow the signs to the track.



Tex Rep’s Community Division presents its third annual summer show July 20 through July 22 and July 24 through July 26 at 218 W. Broad St. in downtown Texarkana. Shows start at 7 p.m. each evening for “Who’s On First?” a nightmare comedy by Jack Sharkey. Show features Paige Blackmon, Michael Skotnik, Deb Ford and Travis Ranson. Pre-show is coordinated by Stacy James Mayo.

Arts and Ends

The Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council will host “Color Texarkana” this July for children 5 to 11. Morning sessions are from 10 a.m. until noon. Afternoon sessions are from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Dates are Tuesday (July 15), July 22 and July 24.

This year’s theme is “Our Parks in Color.” Children will create works that showcase the many parks throughout Texarkana and the finished pieces will be displayed on the art wall in the ArtSpark at 4th and Main Streets during the summer. Texarkana Community Music Education is enrolling now for its band camp.

Private lessons and group classes are available, as well as a wide variety of fun ensembles. Six different sessions are available. Instruments taught are the flute, oboe, saxophone, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, and baritone.

The Texarkana Museums System presents two new exhibits, both open through August.

“Main Treasures: A Celebration of Downtown” is open at the Museum of Regional History, 219 N. State Line Ave. The exhibit features items recently found among downtown Texarkana buildings, as well as items from the permanent collections. Admission: $5 for adults, $3.50 for children.

“Mystery of the Mayan Medallion” is on display at Discovery Place Children’s Museum, 215 Pine St. It’s a hands-on exhibit giving insight into many aspects of Mayan culture. Admission: $4.50 ages 5 and up, free for children 4 and under.
