Local musician Yung Coach launches recording career
Texarkana hip-hop and rap fans have one of their own getting music out now that Otis Charles Coleman II, known on stage as Yung Coach, has a recording deal and EP coming out.
Coach, 21, signed earlier this year with Prime USA Records. His four-song EP, “U.S.O.C.” (for “United States of Coach”) should be in stores soon. Coach was born and raised in Texarkana and graduated from Texas High. His mother, Willie Mae Jackson, owns the club Entertainment Central on South Lake Drive. He’s expecting to go on a 60-city Prime Players Americana tour later this year. The four songs on the EP are “Jena 6,” “Do For Love,” “Chillin at the Bar” and “Ride Wit Me.” His songs have a smooth and clean style, which Coach calls “grown-folks” music. After years of trying to break in, it feels good to have songs for sale and a chance to go on a live tour, said Coach. “I’ve been pushing this for the last six years, and I’m real excited and thankful I’ve gotten to where I am,” said Coach. While touring he aims to be “having fun and enjoying life and meeting new artists and getting to work with new artists.” Along the way, Coach has sold his music on the streets and even made an ultimately unsuccessful trip to New York City to start a music career. He has played some live shows in recent years, including opening for Willie Clayton two years ago and for the Black Rodeo Association in April.
