Insinuwait glad to be back with new music, finer focus
![]() Photo by David Miller Insinuwait is back on stage at 8:30 p.m. Sunday with Neverset at Shooters Sports Bar. They opened the show for Drowning Pool’s Texarkana stop, the local band’s first show in more than a year. At one time Insinuwait was on the rise and on the road, opening for former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler’s band, but things with Insinuwait quieted down for a couple years. The band members enjoyed being together again so much recently and find themselves in a better logistical situation to play together, said the band’s guitarist Casey Huff, so they’re coming back for more. Insinuwait plays Sunday with Neverset at 8:30 p.m. at Shooters Sports Bar. Cover charge is $5 at the door. “On that last Drowning Pool it kinda felt good to us ...” said Huff. “It felt good on stage, and everyone was like, ‘Man it’s like you guys never missed a lick.’” He said Insinuwait has worked on some new songs for the Sunday show and even reworked some old songs to freshen them up. “The group of guys we have now it’s just been a good group of guys,” said Huff. The original lineup of Huff on guitar, Bum White on drums, Chris Johnson on guitar, David Ainsworth on bass and Craig Wood on vocals is together for this show. Huff said the album they made several years ago helped them hook up with a management group and go on tour with Adler’s Appetite, but the work ultimately didn’t lead to a record deal, unfortunately. “We got to play with some pretty cool little bands, you know ... we were hoping it would sound good for the record company,” said Huff, but that didn’t happen. He thinks their music was hard to pin down as some of it was slower and some jazzy. “I think that got a lot of record people confused,” he said, noting their new music, though, is easier to get down. “Now we’ve got some music wrote, and with this new music you can definitely say, ‘OK, these guys are this kind of band now.’ I can actually see that,” said Huff. “What does that mean in the long run? I couldn’t tell you. All I know is we got together and it felt good jamming.” He said Insinuwait will simply go from here and start working on their new music. They also plan to play with Egypt Central sometime in August. With marriages and kids coming along, the band members have also grown up and settled down in recent years. “If we do go into the studio and record some new music, we’re still not going to quite our day jobs ...” said Huff. “We still have families to support, so we’re not like the young kids nowadays.” He said the band is definitely committed to the hard stuff they’ve played consistently through the years. And he said even though they like softer stuff like Pink Floyd, bands like Metallica are in their blood. “It’s still going to be hard rock because we all love hard rock and hard rock has a good appeal to it and a lot of people listen to it,” Huff said.
