Miller County Fair kicks off Monday with parade

Fouke, Ark.—The 65th Annual Miller County Fair festivities kick off Monday at 6 p.m. in traditional style with the Miller County Fair Parade, and U.S. Rep. Mike Ross taking over the Grand Marshall duties this year.

The rest of the week features an array of activities that have made the fair popular for decades.

“It’s been going on a long time,” said Fouke Mayor Terry Purvis about the Miller County Fair. “This year we’ve got Congressman Mike Ross, who’s going to be our Grand Marshall. We’re going to have an awesome drum line coming out of Texarkana that’s in conjunction with Faith, Love and Hope.”

He said last year’s parade was the largest Fouke has seen in several years and organizers want this year’s parade to be just as exciting.

This year, inflatable rides will be one of the fun-filled entertainment options for kids, including a wet slide.

Tuesday night is the pageant, which is open to contestants up to 21 years old. It’s held in the Fouke High School cafetorium.

Wednesday is the livestock check-in, while on Thursday there’s a senior citizens luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a market show at 6 p.m.

Friday evening focuses on farm activities, starting with the breeding beef, commercial heifer and steer show at 6 p.m. The high school rodeo and mutton bustin’ start at 7 p.m. The band Framed is scheduled to start playing at the same time.

On Saturday, the mutton bustin’ and the high school rodeo again start at 7 p.m. with the band South Bound also performing.

Fair/rodeo admission: $6 for adults, $3 for students and children under 5 get in free. Admission Tuesday through Saturday: $3 for adults, $1.50 for students and children under 5, free.

Anyone who wants to participate with a parade float can still sign up by calling Purvis today or during the weekend at 903-293-4266.
