Enjoy an a cappella evening with the Twin City Sensations

Get ready for a rare occurrence. It’s a full-fledged show by Texarkana’s very own Twin City Sensations Chorus.

They’ll team up with the Lake County Harmony Chorus of Daingerfield, Texas, for a women’s four-part a cappella harmony performance on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Williams Memorial Methodist Church here in Texarkana at 4000 Moores Lane.

Both choruses are members of Sweet Adelines International. This past April, Twin City Sensations garnered a first place Division A award at the Region 25 annual competition.

Though they perform at various functions and community events, Twin City Sensations doesn’t often have an all-out concert like this.

“It’s been at least three years since we’ve had a show,” said TCS director Robin Curtis. She said putting on a joint show with another chorus made it easier to get the show arranged.

“Our show will be complete with costume changes and the whole works,” said Curtis.

Each women’s chorus will have a theme, she explained. For the Lake Country Chorus it’s vacation travel, while for TCS it’s time travel. The songs and script will revolve around those themes.

While it’s not exactly a play, there will be scripted dialogue for the show, said Curtis. Songs TCS plans to sing include ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” and “We Go Together” from the musical “Grease.”

“It’s good family entertainment is what it is,” Curtis said. She said the next big show for TCS will likely be in two years, though the chorus hopes to sing a Christmas chorus later this year.

“We’re always looking for women who love to sing,” said Curtis. “You don’t have to be able to read music, just be able to carry a tune.” All ages are welcome to join.

(Tickets: $8 for adults and $6.50 for those 65 and up and for children under 12. They’re available from chorus members and at both National Auto Sales, 901 Texas Blvd., and David Mims Farmers Insurance, 5502 Cowhorn Creek Road. Tickets will not be available at the door. Info: contact Robin Curtis at 903-838-6979.)
