Rodney Crowell coming to Music City Texas Thursday

Submitted photo Rodney Crowell will play Music City Texas in Linden on Thursday. His latest album is “Sex and Gasoline.”
Linden, Texas—Thursday night is a special chance to catch a country music star, Rodney Crowell, whose classic 1988 album “Diamonds and Dirt” generated five No. 1 hits for the Houston-born singer and songwriter.

He’s still recording and making interesting music. His latest album is “Sex & Gasoline,” a meditation on the lives of woman in the modern world. It’s out on Yep Roc Records.

He’ll perform at Music City Texas Theater on Thursday night starting at 8 p.m. Doors open 6:30 p.m. The show has unreserved, concert-style seating, and tickets are $25.

At one time, Crowell was married to Roseanne Cash. They recorded the hit duet “It’s Such a Small World.” Early in his career he played with Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band.

He also has a local tie, said MCT’s president, Richard Bowden.

“Rodney has a Linden, Texas, connection through Reagan Watson, who had worked with Rodney and Emmylou Harris in years past,” said Bowden.

He said coming back from a Caddo Lake fishing trip with Watson helped inspire Crowell to write “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight.”

“It’s going to be nice to have him here in Linden, Texas, where he has the connection and where he’ll be reunited with his old friend Reagan,” Bowden said. “I’ve always considered him to be one of the finer songwriters and as a performer I expect he will be as good as his writing is.”
