TC music series features different types of duos
Ever hear a flute and alarm clock make music together?
Well, duos of various types get the spotlight Monday for the next Texarkana College music series concert. Mary Scott Goode, associate professor of music at TC, said it’s a night of combinations for the evening’s entertainment starting at 7:30 in the Truman Arnold Center Great Room. Goode and Marc-André Bougie will perform a four-hand piano sonata by Mozart. Bougie will also accompany his wife, soprano Candace Taylor, on songs from Richard Strauss. “There will be another husband-and-wife team, Laura and Steve Bennett. She’s on flute and he’s on trombone,” said Goode. Then a fun duet of Laura Bennett on flute and that alarm clock will follow. Ryan and Steven McDonald will perform a song from “The Gondoliers,” a Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera. “And the funny thing about that duet is it’s two men singing back to back, singing each other’s sentences,” Goode said. “The last piece on the program is a duet from a Verdi opera, ‘La Forza del Destino,’ an aria for tenor and baritone,” she added. “All of these persons are faculty here at TC or spouses of faculty,” Goode said. As with all TC Department of Music concerts, the performance is free and open to the public.
