LITTLE ROCK-Gov. Asa Hutchinson has ordered that U.S. and state flags fly at half-staff in honor of a state representative from Monticello who died after battling cancer.

Hutchinson issued the order Tuesday in tribute to Democratic Rep. Sheilla Lampkin, who died Saturday. The governor says flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Wednesday.

Lampkin began her career as a teacher and demonstrated a passion for working with special education students, dedicating more than 30 years of service to students.

After retiring, she spent six years as a member of the state House of Representatives, where she served as vice chair of the House Education Committee.
