Barling city official suspended for failing to report arrest

BARLING, Ark.-Barling City Administrator Mike Tanner has been suspended without pay for two weeks for failing to immediately report his arrest in Oklahoma last year for driving under the influence.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the suspension of Tanner was announced Tuesday following a meeting by city directors.

Online court records show Tanner was arrested in March 2015 for driving under the influence, transporting a loaded firearm while under the influence and transporting a loaded firearm.

The records show Tanner pleaded no contest to DUI and transporting a loaded firearm earlier this year and was sentenced to one year probation. The transporting a loaded firearm while under the influence charge was dropped.

Tanner issued a statement saying he accepts the discipline and apologizes "for any inconvenience" he has caused.
