Little Rock officer cleared in fatal shooting

LITTLE ROCK-Prosecutors have cleared a Little Rock police officer of criminal wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a man last year.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the Pulaski County prosecuting attorney's office ruled Monday that officer Brittany Gunn was justified in shooting James Hartsfield in October.

Little Rock Police say the shooting began when Gunn saw a driver later identified as Hartsfield drinking what appeared to be liquor. Police say Hartsfield resisted Gunn's attempt to remove him and instead sped the car forward. Gunn shot him multiple times before he crashed through a brick wall and died at the scene.

Chief deputy prosecutor John Johnson says Gunn was faced with a difficult choice, but was put in a situation she felt required her to use deadly force to defend herself.
