Good economic news a bit of a mirage


Associated Press A Costco cashier counts money from a customer Thursday at Costco in Mountain View, Calif. Consumers gave some of the nation’s retailers a little relief in April after months of dismal sales, gravitating toward less expensive discounters and wholesale clubs but generally still shying away from stores selling clothes and other non-necessities.
WASHINGTON—The unemployment rate drops. Productivity grows. The trade deficit shrinks. Sounds great, right? Not so fast.
