LONDON—The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.2472, down from $1.2512 late Wednesday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.2480.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Wednesday, included 95.21 Japanese yen, down from 95.52; 1.1975 Swiss francs, up from 1.1866; and 1.2423 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2368

The British pound was quoted at $1.4668, down from $1.4890.
