NEW YORK—The dollar rose against the pound, but fell versus the euro and yen in New York in thin trading just before the new year.
More grim reports on American consumers’ sentiment, which plummeted unexpectedly, and home prices didn’t help the buck.
The 15-nation euro rose to $1.4156 in morning trading in New York from $1.4091 Monday. The euro dropped as low as $1.3919 late Monday night and spiked higher in overnight trading.
Such sharp price movements are due to the small number of players in the market, said UBS foreign-exchange analyst Geoffrey Yu.
