Hope springs eternal—or hopefully through the first couple of weeks of October.

Major League baseball teams would settle for the latter, especially those who (see the Texas Rangers) annually seem to start planning for next season by the end of June.

But April is a different story. The first month of the MLB season is for dreamers, those who know better but refuse to acknowledge the harsh reality that comes when the summer sun starts to beat down on teams playing beyond their capabilities, and the cream begins rising to the top.
