Texarkana was born on the railroad tracks, deriving its life from it as it expanded outward from it for much of its history.

But things change and over the years railroads lost much of their clout. Witness the decline of downtown Texarkana as proof. Air travel and interstate highway systems soon supplanted rail travel in both popularity and practicality. It has never recovered.

But it may. Economic factors are in play that may one day make rail transportation more attractive, and eventually remind us why it is prudent to never say never. ...
