This week in 1957, Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus met with President Eisenhower on school integration, the first underground nuclear test was set off in Nevada, Ford Motor Co. was about to present the Edsel to the public and a piano picker from Ferriday, La., was in the midst of a 23-week chart run with his first hit record.

A lot of hit records were born after months of work and weeks of recording effort, while several others were more “off the cuff” efforts which were recorded in only one or two takes.
