A few weeks ago Carlton Jones was fuming about a report that put his office in a bad light. This column is not about that, but he did have a nice characterization that is worth repeating.

As deputy prosecutor in this corner of Arkansas, Jones thought his office had been unfairly portrayed (and it had been). He offered this observation as to why the critics had come to the wrong conclusion.

He said basically that from a distance, say from “35,000 feet up,” a particular situation might look suspect, “but here at ground level where you’ve got all the facts, it usually does...
