This week in 1954, Disney aired the first episode of the “Davy Crockett” TV series, Tennessee Gov. Frank Clement accused Nixon, Dixon, and Yates of lowering U.S. standards of public morality, Ike named Nelson Rockefeller as special foreign policy aide, and a singer from West Plains, Mo., had his first hit record.

Many hit songs have been written from childhood memories or ideas for songs have been triggered from those same memories. According to Johnny Mullins, Porter Wagoner’s 1954 hit, “Company’s Comin’” was just such a song.
