With a large dose of determination and help from a local committee, a legally blind young man from Texarkana recently bagged his first deer.

Mark Smith, 18, was born with the visual impairment that allows him to see only shapes and movements, not the details of the world. Mark’s blindness, said his father, Steve Smith, also limited the teen’s outdoor activities until three years ago.

The local Buckmasters committee arranged the special hunt for Mark. Money raised at Buckmasters’ September banquet fund hunts for the physically challenged throughout the country.
