Avis Turney, 85, of Texarkana, Ark., died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Turney was born March 16, 1923, in Beebe, Ark. She was formerly employed with Gibsons and Howards and a Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Turney; and two grandchildren, Lisa Turney and James Owen Turney.

Survivors include four sons, David Turney, Tommy Turney, Wayne Turney and Ronald Turney; one daughter, Linda Sue Jones; two sisters, Gail Harlan of Fort Smith, Ark., and Betty Bean of Seattle; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at East Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Wallace Edgar officiating. Burial will be under direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
