LINDEN, Texas—Wiley John Powell, 82, of Linden died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Carterville, Texas.

Mr. Powell was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Edgewood, Texas. He was an inspector with Lone Star Steel Co., a Mason, a treasurer and trustee of Union Hill Cemetery Association and a deacon of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Linden.

Survivors include his wife, Billye Joyce Powell; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Tim Knepp of Linden; one brother and sister-in-law, O.C. and Mavis Powell of Carthage, Texas; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Myrtis Doss of Marshall, Texas, Lillie Mae Hampton of Atlanta, Texas, and Ruth and Bo Green of Linden; two grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Pinecrest Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Baggett officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery under direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home.
