HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—Lena Mae Abernathy, 88, of Hughes Springs died Thursday, May 8, 2008, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Abernathy was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Hughes Springs. She was a member of Red Radiance Garden Club, Sesame Club Home Demonstration Club and Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy; two sons, Roger and Weldon; and one great-grandson, James Brooks.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Gary Baugh of Hughes Springs; one daughter-in-law, Jane Abernathy of Hughes Springs; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Evelyn Coulter of Atlanta, Texas, and W.D. and Doris Abernathy of Hughes Springs; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Springs Cemetery with the Revs. Dan McGuire and Billy Crocker officiating. Burial will be under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
