John Hershell Robinson, 88, of Maud, Texas, died Friday, May 16, 2008, in a local hospital.

Mr. Robinson was born July 15, 1919, in Redwater, Texas. He was a retired railroad switchman and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Robinson.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry and Selma Robinson of Texarkana and Robbie Robinson of New Boston, Texas; four sisters, Tommie Jones of Shreveport, La., Bertie Young of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Barbara Rainer of Sidney, La., and Wilma Eilner of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Delwin Freeburger of New Mexico; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Chapelwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Rice officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
