LULA LIGGINS
Lula Mae Liggins, 82, of New Boston, Texas, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Liggins was born June 1, 1925, in New Boston. She was a member and Sunday school teacher with Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Peter Hubbard; and one daughter, Queen E. Runnels. Survivors include one son, Gus Hubbard of New Boston; one daughter, Leola Liggins of New Boston; two sisters, Ester Lee Hubbard of Los Angeles and Rena Sanders of New Boston; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Old Boston, Texas, with the Rev. Stanley Hilliard officiating. HOPE, Ark.—Dink Harris Jr., 99, of Bradley, Ark., died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in a Texarkana hospital. Mr. Harris was born Sept. 7, 1908. He was a farmer and a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, Bradley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora “Bessie” Harris; and one daughter, Alice Harris-Turner. Survivors include one brother, Early Harris of Bradley; one son-in-law, George W. Turner of Texarkana; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services will be noon Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Bradley, with the Revs. George L. Harris and McArthur Turner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery under direction of Brandon’s Mortuary. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. FLORENCE ZACHRY DE QUEEN, Ark.—Florence Slaton Zachry, 94, of Lockesburg, Ark., died Monday, May 19, 2008, in a Nashville, Ark., hospital. Mrs. Zachry was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Lockesburg. She was a homemaker and a member of Lockesburg First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hester Zachry, in 2005; and one son, Sammie Charles Zachry, in 1939. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Billy and Cathy Zachry of Hughes Springs, Texas, and Benny Zachry of Thibodaux, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Dale Daughtery of Lewisville, Ark., and Betty and Kenneth Currence of Lockesburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Alise Slaton of Lockesburg; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Lockesburg, with the Rev. Mike Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Kingree Chapel Cemetery under direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. CORA POENISCH Cora “Cora B” Poenisch, 75, of Texarkana, Texas, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, in a local hospital. Mrs. Poenisch was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Lewisville, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Poenisch; and one son, Jim Thomas. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Thomas of Texarkana; three sisters, Doretta Forsyth and Frances Shipp of Texarkana and Elvire Fain of Stamps, Ark.; one granddaughter, Crystal Rayburn; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at East Funeral Home, Moores Lane, with Jerry Monholland officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens. LAINEY MILES NAPLES, Texas—Lainey Denice-Jayde Miles, infant daughter of Samantha Miles and Clyde Finney of Naples, died Monday, May 19, 2008, in a Dallas hospital. Lainey was born April 24, 2008, in Dallas. Other survivors include one sister, Kaidence Rene Landrum of Naples; her grandparents, Sherry Suiter of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Billy Miles of Omaha, Texas; her great-grandmother, Eva Nell Nevill of Naples; and a number of other relatives. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Old Union Cemetery with the Rev. Dominic Crescimanno officiating. Burial will be under direction of Harrison Funeral Home. GLADYS JENNINGS NEW BOSTON, Texas—Sarah Gladys Jennings, 96, of Houston died Saturday, May 17, 2008, in a Houston hospital. Mrs. Jennings was born May 2, 1912, in Andalusia, Ala. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Union Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jennings. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William M. and Kathlyne Jennings of North Richland Hills, Texas; two daughters, Mary Alice Jennings of Imperial, Calif., and Billie Coghlin of Richardson, Texas; one sister, Lucille Tidwell of Simms, Texas; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Bates-Rolf Funeral Home with Paul Beard officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Online registration is at www.batesrolffuneralhome.com. JOHN GREISSER LEWISVILLE, Texas—John Robert Greisser, 96, of Texarkana, Ark., died Monday, May 19, 2008, in a Dallas nursing home. Mr. Greisser was born in Spokane, Wash. He was retired from Shell Oil Co. and Texarkana Water Utilities Pollution Control Department, a captain in the Ordnance Department at Red River Arsenal, a deacon and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Texarkana, Ark., a member of Texarkana Rotary Club and Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, Dallas, and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Oglesby Greisser, in 1998. Survivors include four children, Annabel Watters of Dallas, Harriet Greisser of New York City, Betty Anthony of Texarkana and William Greisser of Lewisville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Cremation is under direction of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home.
