JOHN ALLEN

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—The Rev. John T. Allen, 82, of Arkadelphia died Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

The Rev. Allen was born June 23, 1925, in Vaden, Ark. He was a minister in the Southwest District Missionary Baptist Association or Arkansas and a World War II Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Lee Nelson Allen; and one daughter, Melva Joyce Allen.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Earl Allen of Detroit, Mich.; two sons, John O. Allen and Gary Allen; two daughters, Carolyn J. Evans and Deborah L. Allen; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Ashdown, Ark., and 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Arkadelphia. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery under direction of Welch Funeral Home.
