Jacob Martin “Brother Ray” Ray Sr., 83, of Texarkana, Texas, died Sunday, May 25, 2008,at his home.

Mr. Ray was born May 14, 1925, in Pine Bluff, Ark. He was owner of Ray’s Grocery, a post office clerk, real estate developer, member of Sacred Heart Academy and a Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Ray; and one son, Jacob Martin Ray Jr.

Survivors include one son, Carl Ray Jr. of Cedar Hill, Texas; one daughter, Carolyn Ray Wiley of Pearland, Texas; his stepmother, Daisy Lee Ray of Alexandria, La.; one brother, Bernard Ray of Alexandria, La.; two sisters, Harriet Richardson of Shreveport, La., and Bertha Bifford of Texarkana; two stepbrothers; three stepsisters; seven grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Haynes Mortuary with the Revs. Willie Williams Jr. and James Ray officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
