HOPE, Ark.—Hugh W. “Hughie” Van Riper, 97, of Washington, Ark., died Thursday, May 29, 2008, in Hope.

Mr. Van Riper was born March 17, 1911, in Washington, Ark. He was a retired mechanic and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Norman Van Riper of Washington.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home with the Rev. Kennen Williams officiating. Burial will be in Old Washington Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
