Fred Holsey Lyles Sr., 89, of Texarkana, Ark., died Thursday, May 29, 2008, in a Dallas hospital.

Mr. Lyles was born May 18, 1919, in Doddridge, Ark. He was retired from Buhrman-Pharr Hardware Co., a member of Arkansas State Parent Teacher Association, Iron Mountain Neighborhood Council, Masonic Lodge and Walker Chapel CME Church and an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nealia Stuart Lyles.

Survivors include one son, Fred H. Lyles Jr. of Los Angeles; two daughters, Carolyn Collier of Kansas City, Mo., and Yolanda Cynthia Thompson of Dallas; three brothers, Benjamin Franklin Lyles of Texarkana, Felix Ora Lyles Jr. of Kansas City and Dr. James Vernon of Los Angeles; one sister-in-law, Estelle Lyles of Texarkana; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. James Vernon Lyles and Johnny Stuart officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under direction of Lyles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
