MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas—Amos Lee Rockwell Sr., 88, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Longview, Texas.

Mr. Rockwell was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Mount Pleasant. He was retired from Lone Star Steel, a member of Sheppard Street Church of Christ and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lodie Rockwell; and two sons, Amos Rockwell II and Calvin Rockwell.

Survivors include five sons, James Buffins of Dallas, Leonard Rockwell and Earnest Rockwell of Mount Pleasant, Richard Rockwell of Terrell, Texas, and Lavell Rockwell of Round Rock, Texas; two daughters, Janette Lawson of Atlanta, Texas, and Patricia Rockwell of Lancaster, Texas; one brother, R.J. Rockwell of Mount Pleasant; four sisters, Rosie Woodson, Dorothy Barrier, Ollie Eaton and Joy Doddy of Mount Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sheppard Street Church of Christ with Amanzo Jones officiating. Burial will be in Old West Side Cemetery under direction of Tumey Mortuary.

Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with visitation 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
