Eugene “Gene” Smith, 83, of Texarkana, Texas, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, in a local hospital.

Mr. Smith was born March 21, 1925, in Genoa, Ark. He was the owner of Euless Paint and Body Works, a member of North Texas Chosin Few Chapter and, Korean War Veterans Twin City Chapter, Vice President of Ringwood Cemetery Association, Walnut Church of Christ, and a World War II and Korean War Navy/Marine veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Esta Ann Smith of Texarkana; two sons, Mike Smith of Ashdown, Ark., and Frix Smith of Texarkana; one daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Richard Gideons of Bossier City, La.; five grandchildren, Brant Smith, Amy Green, Edwin Gideons, Angela Gideons and Shannon Renfro; three great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chapelwood Funeral Home with Dr. John Cannon, Jasper Howard and Ed Miller officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with military rites.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will be at 6504 Scott Wright Road, Texarkana, TX 75501.
