MESQUITE, Texas—John Preston Carr, 85, formerly of Texarkana, Texas, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Tyler, Texas.

Mr. Carr was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Texarkana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Faye Carr, in 1986.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Royce Sr. and Deborah Carr; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Wayne Chappell; one brother, Robert J. Carr; and five grandchildren, Preston Carr, Patrick Carr, Paul Carr, Ashley Chappell and Austin Chappell.

Services were July 8 at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home. Burial was in Laurel Oaks Memorial Park.
