Covington D. Blackwell, 62, of Sterling Heights, Mich., died Saturday, July 12, 2008.

Mr. Blackwell was born Dec. 21, 1945, in Texarkana, Ark. He was a federal logistics worker, a member of First Corinthian Full Gospel Church of Christ and Phi Beta Sigma and a Vietnam War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne Elliott Blackwell of Sterling Heights; one son, Covington D. Blackwell Jr. of Sterling Heights; two daughters, Rhonda Blackwell Watson of Little Rock and Lakeisha N. Blackwell; his mother, Ruth Smith Blackwell of Texarkana; and one sister, Shirley A. Blackwell of Tennessee.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Williams officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Cemetery under direction of Moore’s Funeral Home.

Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
