James Edward Smith, 97, of Hooks, Texas, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, in a local hospital.

Mr. Smith was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Hooks. He was retired from Red River Army Depot and a member of Miller-Bowie Farmers Association and Antioch Christian Church. He was preceded in death by one wife, Frankie Perry Smith.
