HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—William D. Abernathy, 88, of Hughes Springs died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, in a Longview, Texas, hospital.

Mr. Abernathy was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Hughes Springs. He was an electrician with Lone Star Steel Co., a Mason, a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, United Steeworkers of America and First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, and a World War II Army veteran.
