Conservative icon William F. Buckley Jr. found dead at age 82

Heavily armed with wit, a pen and a magnificent intellect, William F. Buckley Jr. made a name for himself as perhaps the single most influential political writer and TV personality of his time.

Now that wit and intellect are at rest and the pen is stilled. Buckley, 82, died Wednesday morning at his home in Stamford, Conn. He had been ill with emphysema and was found by his assistant.
