Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John McCain has some ideas about how to stimulate the economy and give American taxpayers a little relief from high gas prices.

McCain wants to suspend the federal 18.4-cent tax on gasoline and the 24.4-cent tax on diesel fuel between Memorial Day and Labor Day—prime summer driving time. He also has called for the U.S. to stop adding to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as a way to lessen demand for oil.

The move, McCain says, will free up money that could be spent elsewhere, providing a boost for the economy.
