Adoption DebateMcCain’s support for traditional families draws fire
In an interview published in Sunday’s New York Times, U.S. Sen. John McCain, Republican candidate for the White House, managed to draw more than a little fire.
Asked about his views on gays adopting children, McCain said, “I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption.” McCain added that he and his wife had adopted a daughter form Bangladesh and said more couples should consider adopting, but he admitted his preference in such cases was for a “traditional” family—a husband and wife.
