Convict dialing means money for crime victims

Prisoners in the state of Texas will soon be able to help compensate victims of crime.

And most won’t even know they are doing so.

The Texas Board of Criminal Justice approved a contract Thursday with a company called Embarq to provide inmate telephone service in state prisons.

Currently, Texas has the most restrictive inmate phone policy in the country. Prisoners are normally allowed one five-minute collect call every 90 days.
