In the years since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Pervez Musharraf, the president of Pakistan, has been a key ally of the Bush administration in the war on terror.

He and his government’s cooperation was especially useful during operations in Afghanistan in pursuit of al-Qaida mastermind Osama bin Laden—an operation that led to the overthrow of the Taliban government that Musharraf has previously supported.
