America suffered tragic loss that Friday in Dallas

For those in Texarkana and around the country who were alive on that day, it’s hard to believe it has been 45 years.

It was a Friday that day in 1963. Right about 12:30 p.m. Many were on their lunch breaks when they heard the news.

The motorcade had turned into Elm Street at Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, passing in front of the Texas School Book Depository when shots rang out.

Riding in the back seat of an open-top Lincoln, President John F. Kennedy had been shot. Texas Gov. John Connally, sitting in the front seat, was shot as well.
