UAMS hopes to begin clinical trials in the spring

Researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute may be close to a major breakthrough in the treatment of breast cancer.

Scientists there are ready to begin clinical trials in the spring for vaccine against the disease.

The vaccine, developed with a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense, works by creating artificial peptides—combinations of amino acids—into the body. The peptides trick the body into producing antibodies to fight the peptides, and fight breast cancer cells as well.
